ABSTRACT

The development of financial technology has promoted the innovation and digital transformation of commercial banks. Through digital transformation, commercial banks can improve bank efficiency and operational capabilities. Through empirical analysis, this study explored the relationship between digital bank transformation and commercial bank operating capabilities and how COVID-19, bank categories, and enterprise life cycles affect the relationship between digital bank transformation and commercial bank operating capabilities. This study selected data from China's commercial banks from 2011 to 2021 and used the regression method of fixed effects to conduct an empirical analysis. The research results show that the digital transformation of banks has improved the operational capabilities of commercial banks. Further analysis showed that the emergence of COVID-19 has negatively affected their relationship. At the same time, compared with rural commercial banks and commercial banks in the recession and phase-out periods, non-rural commercial banks and commercial banks in the growth and maturity stages play a more vital moderating role in the impact of the digital transformation of banks on the financial performance of commercial banks. The main research object of this study is Chinese commercial banks, and this study examines the results of banks' digital transformation and enriches the research on digital transformation. At the same time, this study is helpful to investors who like investment banks and has good practical significance.

ABSTRACT

In the modern age, the context of health, energy, environment, climate crisis, and global Covid-19 pandemic, managing Big Data demands via Sustainable Development Goals and disease mitigation supported by Artificial Intelligence, present significant challenges for a given territory or national boundaries' policies, legal systems, energy infrastructure, societal cohesion, internal and external national security. We look at policy, technical, and legal applications alongside ramifications of relevant policies and practices to highlight key challenges from a global and societal context. This review contributes to developing further awareness of the complexity and demands on policy and technology. In the long term due to these significant changes, inferences of multifaceted policy and data acquisition could present additional compounding challenges regarding civil liberties, data privacy law, and equitable health outcomes, whilst implementing continually evolving policies, practices, and techniques that can weaken infrastructure and present cyber-attack vulnerabilities. ABSTRACT

In the industrial era 4.0, it has surpassed increasingly complex technological advances in the information system that required a very high infrastructure and facilities and prevented fraud. Counterfeiting is a procedure following an entity, statistics, or documents (observe forged documents) with plans to deceive. Falsification of extensive information certificates is exacerbated by the current economic situation in Indonesia, which is currently occurring due to the widespread epidemic, namely COVID-19. The spread of the COVID-19 outbreak has had a significant impact and changes in all sectors, especially certificate forgery in Indonesia. The imitation of busy certificates is the main focus of this journal, focusing on journal publications combined with Blockchain technology. The sophistication of blockchain technology as authentication is comparing two or more items or additional tests to ensure the accuracy, correctness, or correctness of the information. This method uses qualitative methods with data sources based on case studies in controlled supervision with the basic concept of cryptography as the basis of analysis. From the decisions made, it is hoped that this will minimize the level of forgery of certificates widely measured during the COVID-19 era. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, urgent surging demand for healthcare products such as personal protective equipment (PPE) has caused significant challenges for multi-tier supply chain management. Although a given firm may predominantly focus on an arms-length solution by targeting the first-tier supplier, the firm can still struggle with extended multi-tier suppliers it cannot choose which use unsustainable practices. One key goal is compliance across various dimensions with production, environmental and labour standards across the multi-tier supply chain, a goal that blockchain technology can be applied to manage. Based on a comprehensive literature review, this research develops a system architecture of blockchain-based multi-tier sustainable supply chain management in the PPE industry designed to identify and coordinate standards in production and social and environmental sustainability in multi-tier PPE supply chains. The architecture was validated by theoretical basis, expert opinions and technical solutions. We conclude with managerial implications for implementing blockchain technology to advance sustainable multi-tier supply chain practices.

ABSTRACT

Electronic health records (EHRs) and medical data are classified as personal data in every privacy law, meaning that any related service that includes processing such data must come with full security, confidentiality, privacy, and accountability. Solutions for health data management, as in storing it, sharing and processing it, are emerging quickly and were significantly boosted by the COVID-19 pandemic that created a need to move things online. EHRs make a crucial part of digital identity data, and the same digital identity trends - as in self-sovereign identity powered by decentralized ledger technologies like blockchain, are being researched or implemented in contexts managing digital interactions between health facilities, patients, and health professionals. In this paper, we propose a blockchain-based solution enabling secure exchange of EHRs between different parties powered by a self-sovereign identity (SSI) wallet and decentralized identifiers. We also make use of a consortium IPFS network for off-chain storage and attribute-based encryption (ABE) to ensure data confidentiality and integrity. Through our solution, we grant users full control over their medical data and enable them to securely share it in total confidentiality over secure communication channels between user wallets using encryption. We also use DIDs for better user privacy and limit any possible correlations or identification by using pairwise DIDs. Overall, combining this set of technologies guarantees secure exchange of EHRs, secure storage, and management along with by-design features inherited from the technological stack. © 2023 Marie Tcholakian et al.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: This article delineates the pilot implementation of the Rohingya Archive (R-Archive). The R-Archive seeks to both confront and exploit the roles of documentation and recordkeeping in forced displacement of Rohingya people through targeted physical and bureaucratic violence in Myanmar. This grassroots activist intervention is located at the intersection of technology, rights, records, jurisdictions and economics. Using Arweave's blockweave, the R-Archive secures copies of records, such as identity documentation, land deeds and personal papers, carried into diaspora by Rohingya refugees against unauthorised alteration, deletion and loss, providing a trust infrastructure for accumulating available evidence in support of rights claims and cultural preservation. Design/methodology/approach: Iterative development of functional requirements, data collection processes and identification of a technological solution for the community-based, post-custodial, blockchain-inspired R-Archive;design and testing of the R-Archive pilot;and analysis of trust and economic concerns arising. Findings: A complex set of interconnecting considerations is raised by this use of emerging technologies in service to a vulnerable and diasporic community. Hostile governments and volatile cryptocurrencies are both threats to the distributed post-custodial R-Archive. However, the strength of the community bonds that form the archive and articulated in its records speak to the possibility of perdurance for a global Rohingya archive, and working through the challenges surfaced by its development offers the possibility to serve as a model that might be adaptable for other grassroots archival activist projects initiated by oppressed, marginalised and diasporic communities. Research limitations/implications: Personal and community safety and accessibility concerns, especially in refugee camps and under Covid-19 restrictions, presented particular challenges to carrying out the research and development that are addressed in the research design and future research plans. Practical implications: The goal of this pilot was to collect and store examples of a range of documents that demonstrate different aspects of Rohingya culture and links to the homeland as well as those that record formal evidentiary relationships between members of the Rohingya community now in diaspora and the Burmese state (e.g. acknowledgements of citizenship). The pilot was intended to demonstrate the viability of using a blockchain-inspired decentralised archival system combined with a community-driven approach to data collection and then to evaluate the results for potential to scale. Social implications: The R-Archive is a community-centred and driven effort to identify and preserve, under as secure and trusted conditions as possible, digital copies of documents that are of juridical, cultural and personal value to the Rohingya people and also of significance as primary documentary evidence that might be used by international legal institutions in investigating genocide taking place in Burma and by academic researchers studying the history of Burma. Originality/value: The R-Archive is novel in terms of its technological application (Arweave), the economic concerns of a vulnerable stateless population it is trying to address, and its functional complexity, in that its goal is simultaneously to serve both legal evidentiary and community archive functions. The R-Archive is also an important addition to other notable efforts in the diasporic Rohingya community that have attempted to employ the tools of technology for cultural preservation. ABSTRACT

PurposeDigital transformation in supply chains (SCs) has emerged as one of the most effective ways to minimize SC disruption risks. Given the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on global SCs, this study aims to identify and provide empirical evidence about the drivers of digital SC transformation, considering the interactivity between environmental dynamism, technology, and organizational capabilities during the pandemic era.Design/methodology/approachUsing partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), this study examines 923 firms in Vietnam to ascertain the drivers of digital SC transformation between small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and large enterprises, based on the technology–organization–environment (TOE) as an overarching framework.FindingsThis study finds that greater digital SC transformation adoption could be achieved under the interactivity between the TOE components of firms' technological competencies, learning capabilities, and disruptions in socioeconomic environments due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, a multigroup analysis shows that the drivers of digital SC transformation differ between SMEs and large enterprises. SMEs were found to be more motivated by the COVID-19 disruption risk when adopting digital SC models.Originality/valueThis study represents an original and novel contribution from Vietnam as an emerging market to the literature on the impact of COVID-19 on the global value chain. Apart from the unique dataset at the firm level, the analysis of interactions between external and internal drivers of digital SC transformation could provide crucial managerial implications for SMEs to survive major disruptions, such as those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT

A horrifying number of people died because of the COVID-19 pandemic. There was an unexpected threat to food systems, public health, and the workplace. The pandemic has severely disturbed society and there was a serious impediment to the economy. The world went through an unprecedented state of chaos during this period. To avoid anything similar, we can only be cautious. The project aims to develop a web application for the preliminary detection of COVID-19 using Artificial Intelligence(AI). This project would enable faster coordination, secured data storage, and normalized statistics. First, the available chest X-ray datasets were collected and classified as Covid, Non-Covid, and Normal. Then they were trained using various state-of-the-art pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models with the help of Tensor-flow. Further, they were ranked based on their accuracy. The best-performing models were ensembled into a single model to improve the performance. The model with the highest accuracy was transformed into an application programming interface (API) and integrated with the Decentralized application (D-App). The user needs to upload an image of their chest X-ray, and the D-App then suggests if they should take a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test for confirmation. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Digital transformation, which significantly impacts our personal, social, and economic spheres of life, is regarded by many as the most significant development of recent decades. In an industrial context, based on a systematic literature review of 262 papers selected from the ProQuest database, using the methodology of David and Han, this paper discusses Industry 4.0 technologies as the key drivers and/or enablers of digital transformation for business practices, models, processes, and routines in the current digital age. After carrying out a systematic literature review considering key Industry 4.0 technologies, we discuss the individual and collective ways in which competitiveness in contemporary organizations and institutions is enhanced. Specifically, we discuss how these technologies contribute as antecedents, drivers, and enablers of environmental and social sustainability, corporate growth and diversification, reshoring, mass customization, B2B cooperation, supply chain integration, Lean Six Sigma, quality of governance, innovations, and knowledge related to dealing with challenges arising from global pandemics such as COVID-19. A few challenges related to the effective adoption and implementation of Industry 4.0 are also highlighted, along with some suggestions to overcome them.

With the use of blockchain, Internet of Things, virtual platform/telecommunications network, artificial intelligence and the fourth industrial revolution, the essential demand for digital transition within the health care settings has increased as an outcome of the 2019 coronavirus illness outbreak and the fourth industrial revolution. The evolution of virtual environments with three-dimensional (3D) spaces and avatars, known as metaverse, has slowly gained acceptance in the field of health care. These environments may be especially useful for patient-facing platforms (such as platforms for telemedicine), functional uses (such as meeting management), digital education (such as modeled medical and surgical learning), treatments and diagnoses. ABSTRACT

Objectives: To provide an overview of trends in the current evidence landscape of products and services in development that support remote patient monitoring (RPM) and remote therapeutic monitoring (RTM), given the release of new billing codes for RPM and RTM by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2019. Method(s): A focused literature review was conducted in PubMed. Articles published between January 1, 2013 and January 1, 2023 were eligible for inclusion if reported technologies were classified as RPM (defined as the collection and interpretation of physiologic data digitally stored and/or transmitted by patients and/or caregivers to qualified health care professionals) or RTM (defined as the use of medical devices to monitor a patient's health or response to treatment using non-physiological data), following CMS definitions. RPM and RTM technologies included hardware, software, telehealth, and blockchain applications. Articles were then categorized using a semi-automated software platform (AutoLit, Nested Knowledge, St. Paul, MN) based on disease area, study design, intervention, and outcomes studied. Result(s): Of the 673 records screened, 245 articles were included. Observational studies (19.6%) were the most common study design, followed by systematic or focused literature reviews (11.0%) and narrative reviews (10.6%). The most common disease areas included cardiology (25.7%), coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19;13.9%), and diabetes (9.4%). The most frequent clinical, non-clinical, and patient-reported outcomes were symptom monitoring (20.8%), all cause readmission and hospitalization rates (both 7.3%), and patient experience (7.8%), respectively. Conclusion(s): CMS policy and coding practices for RPM and RTM are evolving, and this trend is likely to continue into the future. This review provides details on the current evidence trends associated with RPM/RTM technologies. Evidence development of RPM and RTM should be assessed as evidence needs for coverage and reimbursement may receive increased payer management.Copyright © 2023

ABSTRACT

It has been witnessed that digital technology has the potential to improve the efficiency of emergent healthcare management in COVID-19, which however has not been widely adopted due to unclear definition and configuration. This research aims to propose a proof of concept of digital twins for emergent healthcare management through configuring the cyber and functional interdependencies of healthcare systems at local and city levels. Critical interdependencies of healthcare systems have been firstly identified at both levels, then the information and associated cyber and functional interdependencies embedded in seven critical hospital information systems (HISs) have been identified and mapped. The proposed conceptual digital twin-based approach has been then developed for information coordination amongst these critical HISs at both local and city levels based on permissioned blockchain to (1) integrate and manage the information from seven critical HISs, and further (2) predict the demands of medical resources according to patient trajectory. A case study has been finally conducted at three hospitals in London during the COVID-19 period, and the results showed that the developed framework of blockchain-integrated digital twins is a promising way to provide more accurate and timely procurement information to decision-makers and can effectively support evidence-based decisions on medical resource allocation in the pandemic. © 2023 ICE Publishing: All rights reserved.

Communication standards and protocols are detrimental to the success of any Internet of Things (IoT) system or application. Selecting a communication standard and a suitable middleware or messaging protocol for IoT connectivity is challenging due to the heterogeneous resource-constrained IoT devices and their messaging requirements. Recently, several messaging/middleware protocols in the IoT field were developed and adopted in the industry. However, to date, there is no specific messaging protocol that can support all messaging use cases and fulfil the overall requirements of IoT systems. Therefore, it is critical to understand the application layer messaging and communication protocols of IoT systems to identify the most appropriate protocol that could fit and be applied in various contexts. This paper provides a comparative analysis of the MQTT, CoAP, and AMQP messaging protocols including their security. © 2022 ACM.

With the continuous developing of the COVID-2019, more and more countries and regions have strictly supervised the personal information and location data of confirmed patients and their close contacts. At the same time, how to share the necessary information of patients while ensuring that the personal privacy of patients and their close contacts is not leaked, the access process is transparent, traceable, and data is not tampered with, has become a key issue that needs to be solved urgently. Based on this, we propose an accountable medical attribute pass (AMAP) access control scheme in this paper. The scheme first combines the blockchain with an attribute-based access control model. While introducing the blockchain to trace the source of the access process, the access control strategy and key steps in the access system are deployed on the blockchain in the form of smart contracts, so that the entire system can not only ensure the safe access of users to data, but also trace the source of the entire access process. In particular, the solution introduces the medical attribute pass module. Users apply for access in the form of a pass, which avoids multiple matches between subject attributes and access control strategies in the traditional access control model. While achieving fine-grained access control to medical data, a certain degree Improved access efficiency. Finally, the security analysis shows that this scheme can resist denial of service attacks, malicious tampering attacks, single point of failure attacks, main body masquerading attacks, replay attacks, etc. Experiments and performance analysis show that this solution is compared with other solutions. Under the same access control strategy, the more access times, the more obvious the advantages of this solution;the more access control strategies have the same access control strategy, the more effective the solution is. As governments across the world examine blockchain technology, there are growing concerns about how to implement, enforce and maximize the benefits of the technology. Many countries have to do extensive research and analysis before coming up with proposals. The future of the Emirates Economy is getting less foggy as COVID-19 pushes many government sectors to dip their toes in digital blockchains. It is just a matter of time until blockchain technology is fully implemented in both the public and private sectors. This chapter's purpose is to first understand what is blockchain? Second, to explore blockchain technology in Dubai and third, to describe the sustainable aspects generated by blockchain by looking at different projects implemented in Dubai. The paper summarizes several measures for implementing, promoting and regulating the advancement of blockchain technology taking the example of Dubai. Finance, supply chain, digital identity, energy, healthcare, real estate, transportation and crowdfunding are only a few industries that have well-embraced blockchain technology. ABSTRACT

The twin focus on healthcare and digital transformation during the past two decades, which was intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic to an unanticipated level, has resulted in the mushrooming of literature in the area. While this has enriched the available insights, it has also created a certain amount of confusion, and there is now a need to make sense of what has been achieved before undertaking research that contributes more meaningfully to theory and practice in the area. Motivated by this need, we systematically analyze and evaluate the existing empirical research on the topic of disruptive digital innovations in healthcare. We followed a five-step approach to identify and analyze 42 congruent studies spread across domains, publishers, and geographies to achieve our objective. The outcome of our review is a conceptual framework that could serve to motivate and support future research. First, we presented a bibliographic sketch of the literature to clarify the milieu and descriptives. Next, we performed content analysis to organize the existing evidence into meaningful streams. Towards this end, we followed a structured approach to the review by defining the scope through a matrix–form conceptual framework to guide thematic analysis. Accordingly, we reported on the findings from three perspectives—theoretical, enabler, and barrier—anchoring them in four innovation implementations/outcomes: products, services, processes, and business models. Our analysis suggests that existing scholarship has drawn upon various interdisciplinary theories to map the enablers as well as the barriers that may inhibit the adoption and usage of these disruptive innovations. Based on the findings of our structured approach, we offer useful recommendations to advance research and practice in this field.

The effort to reach the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by the United Nations has incentivized the adoption of IT solutions in many fields. Many systems for sustainable economic development are now relying on a digital form making them more accessible and provides the access to new functionalities. A very interesting example of such systems are complementary currencies i.e. cooperative currency systems that support national economies to provide humanitarian aid and promote sustainable development. While there are many studies on the principles and case studies of successful complementary currencies, many aspects are still unexplored, especially regarding cooperative behavior. Cooperative behavior in these systems is a key aspect, as complementary currencies are often born out of cooperation among members that face a period of crisis or they usually have the objective of creating bonds of reciprocity and integrating social networks between people, which should lead to increased cooperation. However, there is a lack of studies on many aspects of cooperative behavior in complementary currencies, such as how such behavior changes over time, especially in times of a crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover how cooperation behavior is affected by time and different geographical locations is still unclear. In this work, we analyze Sarafu, a complementary currency that went digital and now relies on blockchain technology. Sarafu is a successful case of a complementary currency that was used for humanitarian aid during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, Sarafu is a perfect case study for the study of cooperative behavior, as it implements a special type of account, the group account, to support cooperation groups. This feature supports the study of group dynamics and behavior. What we find is that Sarafu users exhibit strong reliance on cooperation groups;we also observe that the interaction of users and cooperation groups is influenced by both time and geographical location. The study of group accounts and in general mechanisms that promote cooperation can be useful for other humanitarian or community development projects. Moreover, similar cooperation enhancers could have an important role in other social development projects, and in general, in any setting where there is a strong need to foster cooperation for reaching social good.

Fintech is rapidly expanding because of government legislation, multiple schemes, consumer expectations, a cashless economy, digitisation, globalisation, innovation, and other drivers. Need for the Study: Fintech firms are forming alliances with traditional financial organisations to stay afloat and compete. India is becoming a superpower regarding e-startups, especially unicorns. Many startups are undergoing initial public offerings (IPOs). Fintech is an emerging space in India, spreading its wings rapidly in every sector. Methodology: This work is based on a literature review. It utilises secondary data from numerous research publications, magazines, newspapers, published reports, relevant websites, Forbes magazine articles, stories from The Economic Times, the RBI Portal, and information from StartupIndia, Assocham, and Pwc, among others, to develop a conceptual framework showing the growth drivers of Fintech. Findings: The whole world has been affected severely due to COVID-19. Crisis always comes with some opportunity, and it is up to us how to turn the calamities into opportunities that further turn into innovation that has the power to lead the world. Fintech is that fruit that had been born normally but grew abnormally (tremendous growth) during the pandemic. Also, the roots are so deeper that they will flourish more and more. It has been found that the emergence of a cashless economy, ease of internet connectivity, etc., are the major factors that paved the way for growth for Fintech in India. Practical Implications: This study contains the conceptual framework which can guide the stakeholders, policymakers, management teams, field experts, etc., in knowing about their area expertise and looking for improvement, if any. ABSTRACT

This book explores how digital technologies have proved to be a useful and necessary tool to help ensure that local and regional governments on the frontline of the emergency can continue to provide essential public services during the COVID-19 crisis. Indeed, as the demand for digital technologies grows, local and regional governments are increasingly committed to improving the lives of their citizens under the principles of privacy, freedom of expression and democracy. The Digital Revolution began between the late 1950s and 1970s and represents the evolution of technology from the mechanical and analog to the digital. The advent of digital technology has also changed how humans communicate today using computers, smartphones and the internet. Further, the digital revolution has made a tremendous wealth of information accessible to virtually everyone. In turn, the book focuses on key challenges for local and regional governments concerning digital technologies during this crisis, e.g. the balance between privacy and security, the digital divide, and accessibility. Privacy is a challenge in the mitigation of COVID-19, as governments rely on digital technologies like contact-tracking apps and big data to help trace peoples patterns and movements. While these methods are controversial and may infringe on rights to privacy, they also appear to be effective measures for rapidly controlling and limiting the spread of the virus.
